About Key IT
Who is Key IT?
An Australian-owned, Melbourne-based managed IT and cybersecurity provider, operating since 2021 from our Greensborough headquarters, supporting small and medium businesses across Melbourne.
Where are you based?
Greensborough, in Melbourne's north-east. We support the north-east and CBD onsite, and beyond remotely.
Are you really local, or do you outsource support?
Genuinely local. Our helpdesk, engineers and Security Operations Centre are all Melbourne-based. There is no offshore desk.
Costs and contracts
How much does IT support cost in Melbourne?
Managed IT is usually priced per user per month, with most SMB plans in the range of roughly $100–$200 per user depending on inclusions. We quote against your environment after a free review.
Do you require a lock-in contract?
No. We work month-to-month. We would rather earn your business than trap it.
What is included in managed IT?
Typically unlimited remote helpdesk, monitoring and maintenance, patching, security tooling on every device, backup oversight and reporting, with onsite support and projects scoped as needed.
Managed IT and support
What is the difference between managed IT and break-fix support?
Break-fix charges you when something breaks, so the provider only earns when your IT fails. Managed IT is a fixed monthly fee to keep everything running and secure, with monitoring that prevents problems. Managed IT aligns the provider's incentives with yours.
Do you offer 24/7 support?
Our helpdesk runs business hours with after-hours and emergency cover for managed clients, and our SOC monitors security 24/7.
Can you work alongside our internal IT team?
Yes, through co-managed IT — adding capacity, security tooling and after-hours cover alongside your team.
Cybersecurity
We have antivirus already. Isn't that enough?
No. Antivirus stops known threats, but most damaging attacks today use stolen passwords and social engineering that walk past it. Effective protection needs layered controls plus 24/7 human monitoring.
What is multi-factor authentication and do we need it?
MFA requires a second proof of identity beyond a password, so a stolen password alone cannot get in. It is one of the single most effective controls and we consider it essential.
What is the Essential Eight?
Eight cybersecurity strategies from the ACSC that prevent or limit most attacks. We assess and lift your maturity against it. See Essential 8.
Does Microsoft back up my 365 data?
Not in the way you need. Microsoft protects its infrastructure, not against accidental or malicious deletion of your data. Independent backup is essential.
